SANTIAGO.- The president of the Christian Democratic Party (DC), Soledad Alvear, restated today that the suspension of Senator Adolfo Zaldívar was the board of director's only option.

"The truth is that he just kept on stretching the rubber band and it just couldn't keep supporting a situation that only causes problems", said the senator on Radio Cooperativa.

She added "the last straw" was Zaldívar's signature on a joint declaration with the Alliance, which expressed his rejection of the idea to hand over the $145 million US dollars for Transantiago that had been outlined in the 2008 Budget.

Alvear stated that no one plans to silence the Member of Parliament, as he has asserted, since "he has always had plenty of space to be able to express his opinion".

The DC president also expressed that she made the decision to expel Zaldívar after thinking long and hard about it over the weekend, and that yesterday at noon, she made her decision known to the party's board of directors, who supported the proposition and decided to give papers to the Supreme Court in order to request the "red-headed" leader's removal.
