SANTIAGO.- Despite valuing the Government's decision to nominate Sebastián Claro for councilor to the Central Bank, the presidential candidate of the "Renovación Nacional" (RN) party, Sebastián Piñera, spoke out against the departure of the organization's current president, Vittorio Corbo, attributing it to political motivation.
"The President will have to explain why she let Vittorio Corbo go, perhaps she put political interests over the interests of the country, economy, and Central Bank", Piñera speculated.
"I think that Vittorio Corbo's parting is a great loss within as well as outside Chile, and for that, the President owes the country an explanation", he insisted.
One thing that he did agree on with the Government was their decision to nominate economist Sebastián Claro, a man whose commendable human and professional work was stressed by Piñera, for new Central Bank Councilor.
"Sebastián Claro's nomination is an excellent idea, he embodies all of the qualities necessary to be a good councilor to the Central Bank", he stated. He indicated that, because of this, his party would support Claro's name in the Upper House.
