SANTIAGO.- Last June 21st, José Manuel Edwards, the ex trustee for the University of Chile, gave an interview to the newspaper "El Mercurio" reflecting upon his time as a manager of the club.
One part of the interview brought many repercussions after Edwards made various remarks about player Marcelo Salas, whom he accused of avoiding rallies, as well as enjoying and demanding special treatment on trips and in training sessions. It could also be deduced from his comments that there was an institutionalized lack of discipline, as Edwards indicated, "on Wednesdays the trainings were after lunch, because Tuesdays were for Salas".
The "Matador" left the matter in the hands of his attorney, Raúl Jélvez, who presented a lawsuit against Edwards days later for slander.
Almost six months after the incident, the ex trustee has taken a decisive step to end the argument, sending his apologies to Salas in a letter that deems his own statements "unlucky and poorly interpreted".
In his letter, Edwards mentions the mutual respect that existed between the two despite public differences, and adds, "you always behaved and fulfilled your duties accordingly as a professional athlete on the team".
Finally, the ex trustee authorized Salas to give the letter "the publicity that you deem necessary".
