SANTIAGO.  The Fourth Oral Penalty Court convicted ex-model Carolina Leal and her former attorney, Marcelo Jadue, of blackmailing Santiago real estate registrar, Luis Alberto Maldonado Croquevielle.

The court also acquitted Marcelo Encinas, a former employee of the same organization after ruling that there was not enough evidence to prove his participation in the offense.
Judges Pablo Droppelmann, Yenny Morales and María elisa Tapia rejected the arguments made by the Public Ministry and plaintiffs that extortion had been committed against Maldonado, allowing the accused to receive a lighter penalty.

According to the court, the two defendants had threatened to publish nude photos of the developer unless he paid 200 million pesos.

The court, however, did not constitute this to be extortion due to the fact that Maldonado had voluntarily consented to having the pictures taken during his intimate relationship with the ex-model.
