SANTIAGO.- The Ninth Santiago Court of Appeals has found 14 former agents of the National Intelligence Directorate (CNI) guilty for the murders of Gastón Vidaurrázaga, Felipe Rivera, Abraham Muskatblit and José Carrasco Tapia which occurred on September 7th and 8th of 1987.
Justices Jorge Dahm, Victor Montiglio along with attorney Jorge Lagos upheld the punishments issued on September 19th, 2007 by visiting minister Haroldo Brito, who had sentenced Álvaro Corbalán Castilla to prison for 18 years; Jorge Vargas Bories and Iván Quiroz Ruiz for 13 years; Pedro Guzmán Olivares, Gonzalo Maas del Valle, Krantz Bauer Donoso, Jorge Jofré Rojas, and Juan Jonquera Abarzúa for 8 years; and Víctor Lara Cataldo, René Valdovinos Morales, Víctor Muñoz Orellana, Eduardo Chávez Baeza, Carlos Fachinetti López, and José Meneses Arcauz for 5 years and one day.
In addition, the same ruling rejected the civil lawsuits filed by the victims' relatives, which had sentenced the Treasury to hand over $250 million pesos in damages to Alicia Lira Matus, Yolanda Manríquez Sepúlveda, Olivia Mora Campos, Iván Carrasco Mora, María Alvarado Urbina, Igol y Pavel Muskablitt Alvarado; and $65 millon pesos to Ignacio, Yolanda, Patricio and Alberto Vidaurrázaga Manríquez and Raúl Carrasco Tapia.
