Police seize 300 million pesos worth of pirated CDs and imitation videogame consoles

Police investigators uncovered an array of illegal merchandise being sold in the Paseo Las Palmas shopping center in Providencia.

SANTIAGO.- Macul Criminal Investigation officers seized more than 300 million pesos worth of pirated CDs, computer accessories and videogame consoles last night at Paseo Las Palmas in the neighborhood of Providencia.


According to Officer Francisco Lapola, the investigation had begun in December because of the holiday shopping season in the capital's commercial centers.


Three businesses in Paseo Las Palmas were found to be selling pirated CDs, as well as imitation computer accessories and videogame consoles at below-market value.


During the raid, the owners of the stores conducting illegal transactions were detained along with 21 year-old Valeska Rosales -an employee of one of the businesses. Those who were apprehended are to be handled by the East Metropolitan Public Attorney's Office and will be charged with possession of illegal merchandise, intellectual property infringement and failure to possess certificates of authenticity for the products.
