SANTIAGO.- While presiding over the first mayor's council meeting of 2008, President Michelle Bachelet fervently called on members to make good use of the resources available for the benefit of citizens, asking mayors to intensify their work on the ground to educate Chileans about the advances being made.

"I will say to you that now is the time to work, work and work, because it is up to us to make sure that this stage in Chile be remembered as one that opened up many more opportunities for each and every one of our fellow citizens", Bachelet asserted.

The President also emphasized that she wants this "second-half" of her time in office to be remember as a time when Chile "continued to modernize, grow and make great advances towards social justice".

Bachelet pointed out, "we are doing so much and I think it is fundamental that we improve our ability to make people aware of the benefits being improved".

According to the Chief of State, this means that the city leaders should step up their level of daily work, improve their management abilities and have "greater efficiency in communication".
