SANTIAGO.- The municipality of Padre Hurtado became the scene of a new case of "femicide" today after a woman, identified as 46 year-old Carmen Bahamondes Gajardo, was attacked by her live-in boyfriend, 52 year-old Andrés Salazar Velásquez.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 AM when the attacker cut the woman's throat with a 20cm-long knife after the couple began to argue. The cause of the argument is still under investigation.

The couple's 14 year-old daughter, Nicole, was also attacked by Salazar after witnessing the tragedy and trying to help her mother. The girl received cuts to her wrists and was taken to a medical center in Maipú.

Andrés Salazar stabbed himself in the abdomen after the murder and was taken to the Peñaflor Medical Center in critical condition.

The Talagante Public Attorney's Office, which is in charge of investigating the crime, has said that the couple had no previous record of domestic violence.
