SANTIAGO.- Police officer Iván Quiroz Ruiz, a former official for the National Intelligence Directorate (CNI) was taken to the Independencia Police Station after being captured. He had evaded law enforcement for four months, after being sentenced to 10 years and 1 day in prison for his responsibility in murders that took place during the Albania Operation.

Quiroz arrived at the station just after 8:45 AM, where he stated that he had escaped "to prove a point, because I do not agree with my sentence".

"Even though I may be somewhat responsible, I didn't shoot, I didn't use any type of firearm", he stated.

The former official was apprehended yesterday in Concepción while driving an old Chevrolet Luz truck with tinted windows, which he had been using as his method of transportation during recent months.

According to the Assistant Director of Investigations, René Castellón, Quiroz was not armed, nor did he resist officials during his arrest.

When apprehended, Quiroz had an overgrown beard, glasses and long hair, looking very different from investigators' most recent photo of him.
