PUNTA ARENAS- President Michelle Bachelet presided over today’s inauguration of the new Labor Law, which has begun simultaneously in Atacama and Magallanes, and is scheduled to be operating throughout the country during 2009.

While stressing the fact that adequate resources will be available to adequately implement the system, the President also maintained that a gradual implementation will help to avoid problems previously experienced in other reforms.

“(This system) is, allow me to say, off to a good start, with the necessary means and, gradually, so as not to run into the problems other reforms have had, because we all want this to be a great reform”, Bachelet stated while in Punta Arenas.

“The gradual nature of the reform allows for any complications to be corrected immediately”, asserted the minister of Justice, Carlos Maldonado.

Bachelet also took advantage of the opportunity to “reiterate” her request for the president of the Supreme Court, Milto Juica, “not to worry, there will be necessary means to allow this reform to work and the new system will mend issues of asymmetry between areas and will seek to establish true justice”.
