VALPARAÍSO.- After it was declared inadmissible for being an initiative exclusively backed by the President of the Republic, Senators Jaime Orpis, Ricardo Núñez, Baldo Prokurica, Pablo Longueira, Jorge Pizarro and Juan Antonio Coloma have now asked the Executive Branch to sponsor the nuclear energy project being proposed at the Senate.

According to the Upper House, Senator Orpis stated, “the time has come to make a decision on this matter, it is not enough to continue researching the topic.  As members of Parliament, we are giving a very important political signal, that we want to pass an initiative to address this issue and by doing so, we hope to contribute to the decision making process”.

The project being presented by members of Parliament seeks to organically address various aspects linked to nuclear energy generation while implementing regulatory measures and security standards.
