SANTIAGO.– The Ministry of Labor has announced that during the month of July a total of 60,900 requests for the basic solidarity old-age pension were received. This pension is intended for people age 65 or over who do not receive any pension and who belong to the most vulnerable 40% of the population in Chile.

Just one month since the implementation of the solidarity pillar of Welfare Reform, the Minister of Labor, Osvaldo Andrade, along with the undersecretary of Social Welfare, Mario Ossandón, have seen positive results.

Of the 41.300 requests for the basic solidarity old-age pension received in July, close to 38 thousand comply with the requirements, meaning that 92% of the supplicants will be paid in September.

This morning, the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare turned in documentation on the first month of implementation of the solidarity pension system of Welfare Reform.
