Critical condition of Chamber of Deputies president worsens

Juan Bustos remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at the Clínica Alemana medical center.

SANTIAGO.- The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Juan Bustos (PS), has experienced a deterioration of his medical condition during the last few hours and remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care  Unit (ICU) at the Clínica Alemana medical facility.


According to the latest medical report issued by the hospital, the 72 year-old member of Parliament is currently listed in “critical condition” due to multiple organ failure caused by cancer.


Juan Bustos entered the clinic on Thursday, July 24th of this year complaining of acute respiratory problems, which were determined to be caused by viral pneumonia.  The deputy is also suffering from liver cancer, which was discovered in August of last year following a routine medical exam.


Yesterday, after it was revealed that his health condition had worsened, the deputy’s family members, who have been continuously accompanying him at the clinic, were visited by several political figures including the presidential candidate for the National Renovation party, Sebastián Piñera, the president of the Socialist Party, Camilo Escalona, and the vice president of the Christian Democracy, Ximena Rincón, among others.
