SANTIAGO.- The RN presidential candidate, Sebastián Piñera, has gained an advantage in the latest poll taken by the Center for Studies of Contemporary Reality (CERC), reaching a preference rating of 50%, which is almost twice the figure gained by Ricardo Lagos who, with 27%, came in second place in the ranking of politicians with the most potential.
Piñera rose 5 points and Lagos climbed 7 points compared to the previous poll, which was taken in April of this year.
The president of the DC, Senator Soledad Alvear, appeared lower in the ranking after suffering a significant slide in this latest poll. In 2006, Alvear was listed in second place, while today she has slipped to third place with 24% of preference.
Senator Alvear is followed by the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, who jumped from the fifth position to fourth place after gaining 19% of the preference.
Joaquín Lavin came in next, with 14%, indicating a 7 point drop from the poll taken in April.
