SANTIAGO.- The head of the Socialist Party (PS), Camilo Escalona, has attempted to dodge accusations made by Deputy Sergio Aguiló, who said that his name was vetoed by the board of directors during the election of the new president of the Lower House.

Escalona indicated that the election, which was carried out among members of the socialist party, was “extremely close, but that doesn’t change the rules of the game”.  During the process, Francisco Encina obtained seven votes, while Aguiló received 6.

According to Radio Cooperativa, while discussing the topic, Escalona stated, “when someone loses, even if it is only by one vote, they have to accept the results, they can’t try to blame third parties”.

The PS is also facing criticism for nominating the party’s secretary general, Marcelo Schilling, to occupy the vacancy left in Parliament by the death of Juan Bustos.
