SANTIAGO.– After congratulating the deputies who approved the public transportation subsidy for Santiago and the regions, President Michelle Bachelet called on governors to make public the names of those who rejected the initiative.

The Head of State also instructed regional leaders to let the Chilean people know “how each and every one of their representatives votes, because in the Government we have learned that you can’t sit back and yield to those who would aggravate our difficulties to their own political advantage”.

According to Bachelet, it has become clear that the authorities “should talk face-to- face with the citizenry to explain their plans and the difficulties that we sometimes face in trying to make progress and that, if someone wants to oppose a project, the people have the right to know who they are and what their reasons are”.

She continued to defend the communications strategy carried out by the Government to save this initiative, sustaining that it is imperative for people to be informed of what their administration is doing as well as its objective.
