VIÑA DEL MAR.- An inter- provincial bus crashed into a public light post this morning and then flipped over in the middle of Avenida España in Viña del Mar, right on the city’s border with Valparaíso.

The driver, identified as Carlos Bustamante Inostroza, allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to mechanical problems.

Ten people were injured by the accident, including the driver and a 9 year-old boy, who were taken to the Gustavo Fricke Hospital in Viña and the Carlos Van Buren Hospital in Valparaíso, where it was reported that neither is listed in life-threatening condition.

The accident, which occurred just after 10:00 AM this morning, caused an extensive traffic jam, especially along the lane leading from Valparaíso to Viña del Mar.

Since the flipped bus is located within two lanes of the avenue, there is currently only one lane open to traffic in each direction.
