SANTIAGO.- The Chilean film "Tony Manero" and Argentine director Pablo Fendrik emerged as winners of the IV International Film Festival in Santiago (SANFIC), which ended last night after showing more than one hundred movies from various categories.
"Tony Manero", directed by Pablo Larraín (Fuga, 2006) was chosen as the best film, winning a $5,000 dollar prize from the panel of judges.
Argentine director Pablo Fendrik took home the award for best director for the film "La Sangre Brota", and was granted $3,000 dollars in prize money, while the Malaysian film "Flower in the Pocket", directed by Liew Seng Tat, received an Honorable Mention.
Within the Latin American competition, the film "El Camino" was chosen as number one. The movie is a co-French production directed by Ishtar Yasin. The best director award went to Mexican Juan Manuel Sepúlveda, for his film "La Frontera Infinita", while "El Baño del Papa" and the Argentine film "Furtivo" both received Honorable Mentions.
