SANTIAGO.- A bus that had been traveling from Colina to Santiago with approximately 30 passengers was partially incinerated after it burst into flames in the middle of the Autopista Central.
According to reports, none of the passengers were injured and most of the damage caused to the bus affected the rear part of the vehicle.
The accident occurred close to 9:00AM this morning at the highway exit leading to Avenida Santa María as the bus was on its way to the bus terminal located on Avenida La Paz, in the municipality of Colina.
The incident brought traffic to a standstill along the Autopista Central for close to half an hour while firefighters from the Second Fire Department of Santiago worked to put out the flames.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, although preliminary reports indicate that the fire may have been caused by engine failure.
