SANTIAGO.- Following the collapse of a tunnel at the Liceo de Aplicación yesterday, government authorities met today with members of the school's community to analyze the infrastructural problem that is currently affecting the establishment and to design a contingency plan that will allow the students to finish out the academic year.

The meeting was attended by the Director of Education, Victor Schuffeneger; the principal of the school, Eusebio Milla; the president of the student center, Sebastián Neira; representatives from the Council of National Monuments, as well as members of the parents' center.

At the meeting, the president of the student body stated that authorities had proposed ending the academic year at the school, but indicated that so far there are merely proposals and no definitive decision has been made.

Neira reiterated that the problems that are currently affecting the educational facility are the result of poor administration within the school.

"On one side authorities say that they are sending resources, but on the other side the administration says that no money is coming in", he maintained. Nevertheless, the student body president said that he does not wish to point fingers at anyone, but asserted that there is an inconsistency that exists and the principal of the school is ultimately responsible.
