SANTIAGO.- Police, along with the North Central Public Prosecutor's Office are currently investigating the most recent attempt to steal an automated teller machine, this time in Chicureo, in the municipality of Colina.

According to initial reports, the incident took place just after 3:00 AM this morning at the Edwards Citi bank branch located at 800 Camino Chicureo.

An unspecified number of suspects arrived at the bank in a green Nissan truck and used chains to tie the truck to an ATM machine located in the front section of the bank in an attempt to pull it of its foundation.

The cash machine ended up some three meters from its base. When the suspects attempted to lift the machine into their vehicle however, they noticed a police patrol car arriving and decided to flee the scene.

The truck used in the attempted ATM robbery was found hours later on Camino Lo Pinto, at the San José intersection of the same municipality.

LABOCAR officials arrived at the scene of the crime to inspect the broken ATM for fingerprints or other clues that may lead them to the perpetrators.
