SANTIAGO.- The goal keeper for the Universidad Católica, José María Buljubasich underwent surgery today after suffering a tear in the cartilage of his left knee.

The Argentine goal keeper reported feeling some pain yesterday after practice with the team, which is lead by Coach Mario Lepe, and thought that he may have suffered a minor sprain. To calm the injury, Buljubasich immediately applied ice to the area; however the pain became more intense during the afternoon.

After contacting Doctor Cristián Fontboté, medical exams were performed that indicated Buljubasich had partially torn his meniscus.

Fontboté planned a surgery for this morning as well as post-operation recovery measures, which will last at least a couple of months.

The UC goalie will be substituted by national team player Cristopher Toselli while young Fabián Cerda will serve as a back-up player, since the third string goal keeper, Carlos Arias, is also currently recovering from an injury.
