SANTIAGO.- The well-known Chilean painter Pablo Domínguez, a former student of Carlos Maturana (Bororo), passed away this morning at the age of 46.  Domínguez leaves behind an important legacy that includes several awards received in the 1980s as well as a significant presence in international galleries.

Domínguez, whose work was a part of the neo-expressionism movement, painted colorful representations of mountains, skies, hills and rivers.  Some of his works belong to valuable public art collections in Washington, Amsterdam, Moscow, Osaka and Tokyo.

The artist began his career with a degree in art from the University of Chile and continued on to participate in workshops with well-known artists Carlos Maturana (Bororo) and José León.

In 1987, Domínguez received an award in the “Painting Bellavista” contest from the “Asociación de Amigos del Arte” and was given the “Best Underground Artist” award a year later.  In 1992, Domínguez received scholarships from the U.S. Information Agency and Fellowship in Washington D.C.

Domínguez was born on July 16th, 1962 and had undergone an emergency operation earlier this month due to a brain tumor.
