Women wounded by gunshot in neighborhood confrontation with criminals

SANTIAGO. -  A 58 year-old woman took a bullet  to her stomach last night after a group of criminals arrived at the Villa España condominium in La Florida to take revenge on the residents of the community, who had beaten one of the assailants just minutes before.

The incident began as three burglars were entering a home and were ambushed by the residents of the building.  Two of the individuals managed to get away, however one of them became trapped between the fences of the condominium.  The residents captured him and beat him, causing him severe head injuries.

Later, at around midnight, the two men that had managed to escape arrived at the complex with a group of approximately 15 people – all from the Villa Copihue neighborhood.

One of the burglars took out a firearm and began shooting.  One of the bullets penetrated the apartment where Patricia García Álvaro was at the time.  The woman was wounded in the abdomen and was taken to Clínica Integramédica in critical condition.
