Inmate hangs himself in Osorno jail cell

OSORNO. -  Detectives from the Homicide Brigade of the Bureau of Police Investigations in Osorno are currently working inside the city’s prison to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate at the penitentiary.

Despite the fact that the identity of the deceased man has still not been confirmed, reports released by Radio Digital indicate that the man was an inmate that took his own life by hanging himself in the penalty cell of the jail after he was sanctioned for drinking alcohol in the Work and Studies Center of the establishment. 

The National Department of Prison Guards has called for an administrative investigation to be performed in an attempt to clarify the circumstances under which the incident occurred.  Meanwhile, the regional Public Prosecutor’s Office has already been informed of the incident and has dispatched detectives from the Homicide Brigade to the prison to inspect the inmate’s body.
