SANTIAGO.– The Universidad de Chile soccer team arrived in Santiago at around 8:15 a.m. this morning after having earned the crucial classification to the group phase of the Libertadores Cup in Mexico.
The first to speak was trainer Sergio Markarián, who complimented the exertion of the squad. "We still have an important bridge to cross in the middle of this, but in order to get there we have to get through stages, and the first objective was to remain in the international competition", he commented.
Regardless, the Uruguayan coach showed constrained enthusiasm for the next steps that the student team will have to take in the continental tournament.
"We are aware of the fact that there is still a lot of room for improvement. We have our work cut out for us and we have to invest a lot in order to improve our game", stated the head coach.
Goal-keeper Miguel Pinto also spoke. "I think that this is our greatest accomplishment in the last four years and I am proud of what we did. I am happy for the team and for my teammates", he declared.
Universidad de Chile will begin their participation in group 7 of the Libertadores Cup on February 25th, in a game against Gremio, in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
