SANTIAGO.- The president of the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Juan Lobos, expressed today that the private sector must take responsibility for the 104 cases of HIV-positive patients who have not been informed of their condition in the last five years.
"The Superintendence of Health and the Minister himself should act in this case, because they have the legal power to do so, and this situation is just as unacceptable in the private sector as it is in the public sector", indicated Lobos.
The representative reiterated that "what we have here is not only the risk to the health of the carriers of the virus, but to many more healthy people who could engage in some sort of sexual contact with those infected with the virus".
Lobos called for the creation of an urgent initiative to locate and notify these people, clarifying however, that it must be monitored by authorities in order to protect the privacy rights stipulated by Law.
