SANTIAGO.- The minister of Transportation, René Cortázar, maintains that he sees no reason why the Senate refuses to approve a new surge of resources for Transantiago by way of the Budget Law (Ley de Presupuesto).
"Frankly, I see no reason why we cannot approve this bridge loan in the Budget Law, simply choosing to postpone it until December in order to pass a special law that (once in practice) will say the same thing as this law", said Cortázar during an interview with Cooperativa.
Stressing that they are "discussing with other senators", he admitted that "the situation looks pretty confined", although he seemed optimistic.
According to the minister, the goal is that in December "with much more stable data, a more long-term solution can be proposed".
The head of Transport also ruled out any impromptu handling of the money, due to the fact that he has been turning in financial information since July and has informed Parliament members of jobs paid for out of his funds.
