SANTIAGO.- Senator of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) , Evelyn Matthei, maintained that she is "convinced and has been convinced for a long time that, at some time, we are going to have to let go of some money to keep Transantiago from collapsing".  However, she ruled out approving money for the capital's transportation plan, for the moment.

This, in the Parliamentary Member's opinion, is because "it has to keep working and, unfortunately, it must do so with state money".

During an interview with Channel 13, the Member of Parliament stated that she is aware of the situation in which users of Transantiago live, and that it is "obvious that we cannot increase the fare for people in Santiago, so at some time, we are going to have to give it some breathing space".

According to Matthei, the Budget Law (Ley de Presupuesto) is too general to question the matter of Transantiago.

The Senator expressed her feelings by saying "I have always thought that we should create a statue law. It is an amount of money that allow it to operate until April of next year, but with a statute law".
