Young man miraculously escapes from a car that fell into ravine

SANTIAGO.- Ricardo González Aravena (24) is currently in critical condition San José Hospital. The young man was involved in an accident early this morning in the sector of "La Pirámide" on  Americo Vespucio when his car fell 20 meters into a ravine.


The accident happened at 12:36 AM when González lost control of the blue Suzuki that he was driving, while traveling through the La Pirámide sector of Americo Vespucio. The vehicle went off road and fell into the waters of the El Carmen canal, which then carried the car some 200 meters.


Police have indicated that González escaped with his life, but suffered a skull fracture and brain contusion after he was able to vacate the vehicle before it fell into the canal.


According to reports, González called police after leaving the vehicle to inform them about the accident and to say that he was not driving at the time.


Firemen as well as a special police operations group (Gope) arrived to the scene arming a search for the alleged driver, which yielded no results.


Police did not detect any alcohol from a breathalyzer test performed on González Aravena. For now, the Department of Traffic Accident Investigation (SIAT) is looking into the cause of the accident.
