SANTIAGO.- Subcontractors from the El Teniente Division of Codelco blocked traffic early this morning at the 13th kilometer of the Copper Highway in the O'Higgins Region.
This is how the subcontract workers showed their discontent for delays in delivering the report about the law, which should be ready in August, that regulates their situation and that of other "outsiders" around the country.
According to statements made by Radio Cooperativa, and in accordance with the Confederation of Copper Workers (CTC), in addition to the delay, they have also been informed that the report does in fact already exist and that its release is only being postponed by public opinion.
This is due to the fact that large mining companies, including Codelco, could be (as long as the CTC allows it) changing the document, which (along with other details) gives a count of how many subcontract workers the hiring companies should internalize.
A traffic jam, caused by buses filled with workers, blocked about five kilometers of the Copper Highway which, although it is not the only road to El Teniente, is the most widely used.
