SANTIAGO.- The agreement reached between the United Workers Central (CUT) and the government, which is focused on putting and end to the public sector workers' strike, was not made known to the National Association of Public Workers (ANEF), which decided to continue protests.
Yesterday, at the end of the meeting with the Executive Branch, the president of the CUT, Arturo Martínez, assured that no agreement had been made and that the government would present its proposal to Congress without the workers' signatures.
Martínez, however, later accepted the counteroffer made by Finance minister, Andrés Velasco, and Labor minister, Osvaldo Andrade, which consisted of a 6.9% salary increase in addition to a bonus for ending negotiations, along with other compensation.
According to Radio Agricultura, the new scenario caused a break in the center of the labor union's movement, due to the fact that the ANEF did not recognize the agreement and decided to continue the strike.
In spite of this, however, the government took its salary increase proposal to the Lower Chamber of National Congress.
