SANTIAGO.- At a ceremony today headed by the General Director of Police, José Bernales, Officer Cristián Vera Contreras Plaza was inaugurated in Pudahuel to honor the policeman who died in the line of fire during incidents on September 11th of this year.
The new green area is located in "Villa el Comercio", in front of the South Pudahuel Police Station, the unit that the officer belonged to.
The public space seeks to immortalize the community's affection toward the policeman who, during his patrols and guard service, used to socialize with neighbors while he was on duty.
At the location stands a monolith and marble plaque that reads: "You will always be with us. The community of Pudahuel offers a clear homage to Officer Cristián Vera Contreras, a model of courage and devotion to fulfilling duty".
The officer was 34 years old when he was shot in the head while restoring order and public safety on the night of Wednesday, September 11th.
