SANTIAGO.- The Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered a 0.8% increase for the month of November (the highest for the month since 1992) and has risen to 7.3% over the last 11 months of the year, according to information reported by the National Statistics Institute (INE). In 12 months, it has increased 7.4%.

According to the INE, this figure is largely explained by important hikes registered in the areas of Housing (1.8%) as well as Transportation (1.0%), which are both directly and indirectly due to increases in the price of oil.

With regards to Housing, the main increases came from price changes in liquid gas (7.1%) and electricity (3.7%). For Transportation, the most notable increases are those of unleaded fuel (3.1%) and inter-provincial bus fares (4.7%).

On the other hand, the area of Foodstuffs reported a 0.7% increase, which is lower than the group's price increase in October (1.1%) and similar to the values reported for the month during the last three years.
