Benedict XVI has named Italian archbishop Apostolic Nuncio to Chile

Monsignor Giuseppe Pinto will replace Aldo Cavalli, who has occupied the position in the country for six years.

VATICAN CITY.- The Holy See announced today that Pope Benedict XVI has named Italian archbishop, Giuseppe Pinto, as the new representative in Chile.


Pinto will replace monsignor Aldo Cavalli, who has occupied the position in the country for six years and was named Nuncio in Colombia by the Pontiff.


Monsignor Pinto was born in Noci, Italy on the 26th of May 1952. He was ordained as a priest on April 1st, 1978. As a Doctor of Cannon Law, he became involved in diplomatic services of the Holy See in 1984.


He began working in the Pontiff Representations of Papa New Guinea and Argentina, and also in the Vatican State Secretariat for State Relations.


On December 4th, 2001, he was named Archbishop to Anglona and Apostolic Nuncio to Senegal, Mali, Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde, as well as Apostolic Delegate to Mauritania. He received Episcopal Consecration on January 6th, 2006.
