SANTIAGO.- Interior Minister, Belisario Velasco, has accused DC senator Jorge Pizarro of threatening him in order to have the governor of the Choapa province, Gisella Mateluna, removed from office.

The state secretary made these statements after being asked during an interview with Cooperativa radio station about the harsh criticism that the Member of Parliament had made regarding his management, citing coordination and leadership problems within the political team at La Moneda.

According to Velasco, Pizarro has made these comments because he does not support Governor Mateluna, and "she hasn't helped him defend some of the people whom he does, and they have been punished by the Controlling Office".

He added that "the governor did what she was supposed to do and we are not going to remove her from office, despite the threats from Senator Pizarro".

"I believe that Senator Pizarro has gone overboard on the matter and it saddens me that a senator would use his position in this way", stated the minister.
