SANTIAGO.- Minister Victor Montiglio has brought charges against siblings Lupe and Fernando Zevallos, previous owners of the now- obsolete airline, AeroContinente, for offenses of money laundering and conspiracy.
The official has also indicted the company’s ex operations manager in Chile, Zadi Desme Hurtado, who was arrested this morning in the town of Los Andes and is currently being questioned by the judge.
On July 19th, the State Defense Councilor petitioned the 34th Criminal Court to bring charges against Fernando Zevallos for money laundering and conspiracy. The company was closed down in the middle of an economic crisis as well as questioning concerning links to drug trafficking.
The petition has been made due to the fact that Zevallos ,nicknamed "el Lunarejo", is currently serving a sentence of 20 years in Peru for illegal drug trafficking.
At the arraignment in July, the CDE or Chilean State Defense Council (unit that initiated the proceedings in 2001), corroborated that the ex-owner of Aerocontinente is on the top- ten most wanted list of drug traffickers in the United States.
