SANTIAGO.- Despite the exhilaration of last night’s win over their long-established rival, the University of Chile, the Colo Colo team captain and defender, David Henríquez, gave a bitter farewell to the Monumental Stadium.
Player number 4 for Colo Colo had just returned after a long benching period due to a number of injuries and muscle tears. Nevertheless, he was playing a strong game, blocking the unpredictable approach of Emilio Hernández to the left and stopping Sebastían Pinto whenever the powerful forward tried for the ball.
However, in the 29th minute of the match while Henríquez was marking his opponent Pinto from the behind, he used extra force to swipe away the ball and then fell painfully to the ground. The player suffered new muscle tear (with luck, only a strain) that will keep him on the sidelines for the rest of the tournament and may even signify his end with Colo Colo.
Henríquez left the field alone, covering his face with his jersey. Later, while on the bench, he began to cry.
