SANTIAGO.- One day before completing his two weeks of confinement, the public attorney's office that is handling the case of alleged rape charges against Chilean-Swedish tenor Tito Beltrán, has asked to extend the 14 days that the artist be required to spend in jail.
According to reports from the Swedish press, attorney Anna Håkansson asked to increase the time that Beltrán be required to remain in custody in order to finish the investigation process that has been carried out over the last two weeks.
The nanny of actress Maria Lundqvists has accused Belrán of abusing her eight years ago when they met on one of his tours. The singer admitted to being alone with the girl, who was underage at the time, but has denied the allegations of abuse being brought against him.
This past December 7th, the Ystad court decided that Beltrán should be taken into custody for 14 days to prevent him from possibly manipulating the evidence or witnesses.
It was also decided that the trial would begin on the 21st of December, although it was made clear that the public attorney could request to postpone the date, as she has chosen to do.
