SANTIAGO.-  The President declared herself “very happy” during a breakfast held at La Moneda for the 20 students with the highest  national scores on the 2007 university entrance exam (PSU), as well as some who received scholarships for academic excellence.

“You represent many young men and women throughout Chile who are celebrating their high test results today; you also represent many who did not receive good results, but whom we also want to have (…) access to superior education”, stated the President.
Bachelet also reminded the audience that her government program had established a “Highest National Score” scholarship.

She added that the goal of her administration is to “place high bets” on public and subsidized education serving students with less economic resources.

The President regretted, however, the fact that “the national scores and figures still show that university performance and performance on the PSU are very related to a family’s socioeconomic status”.
