SANTIAGO.- The Christian Democratic Party has announced the Supreme Court ruling from yesterday to expel Senator Adolfo Zaldívar after 40 years of service. The announcement came in the form of a concise memo with four bullets, which was read by the party's vice president, Sergio Micco.
"This is a severe but necessary resolution. It is not easy for a political party to have to expel one of its members, but Senator Zaldívar's behavior has rendered this institutional decision inevitable", read the first paragraph of the declaration.
Later, the party's board of directors recalled a quote from Radomiro Tomic, "no single member in the party is greater than the party itself" and announced that the expulsion of the "red-headed" Senator "has hereby been confirmed".
"The basic principles of equality among all members and the obligation to respect the political community that we are a part of, beyond any one individual's situation, have been upheld by the Supreme Court's decision", added the document.
The final paragraph of the declaration affirms that "for the Christian Democratic party, this ruling closes that case of former member Adolfo Zaldívar Larraín".
