Region IX: Another arson attack on a truck, this time in a residential zone

Assailants spray-painted the acronym “CAM” on one side of the burned vehicle. Police are investigating the possibility that the Arauco-Malleco Mapuche Group, linked to former incidents, is responsible for the attack.

TEMUCO.-  A new and shocking case of arson, this time in a residential area in Labranza (10 miles southwest of Temuco), was carried out early this morning by an unknown group of suspects.  Neighbors became alarmed after the group set fire to a truck that was parked on a street in the residential zone.

The attack destroyed they truck which had been purchased only 3 months prior and had only 20 kilometers on the odometer.  The vehicle belonged to truck-driver Angel Silva, who estimated damage costs at approximately 60 million pesos.

On the side of the truck, suspects had written “CAM” in red spray-paint, causing police to preliminarily link the attack to the Arauco-Malleco Mapuche Group.  This same group is suspected to have burned a truck and shot at a tourist bus last Wednesday on the region’s highway.
