SANTIAGO.- According to the National Emergency Office (Spanish acronym Onemi ), the forest fire currently affecting the Laguna Azul area of the Torres del Paine National Park continues to be active, keeping the zone under a Red Alert.

A flyover of the area conducted by the mayor of Magallanes and the regional director for Onemi, revealed that the disaster has currently affected an area of approximately 100 hectares and that the fire has several major burning points towards the east, which "have not yet put the Torres del Paine National Park at risk".

The Onemi has chartered a special flight with the Chilean Air Force (FACh) so that officials from the National Forest Association (Conaf) can be transferred to the areas affected by the forest fires along with their equipment.

The flight is scheduled to leave tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM from the Chilean Air Force Group 10.
