Álvaro Rojas Marín named new Chilean ambassador to Germany

The former Minister of Agriculture will take over the position previously held by Marigen Hornkohl.

SANTIAGO. -  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this morning that the German government has approved the appointment of Álvaro Rojas Marín as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Chile to the country. 


The former Minister of Agriculture will take over the position previously held by Marigen Hornkohl.


Rojas is a veterinarian and was the Dean of the University of Talca from 1981 until 2006, when he resigned from the position after being appointed as a government minister.


Ambassador Rojas taught Rural Development, Macroeconomics and Agricultural Economics at the University of Talca.  Additionally, he holds a Doctorate Degree in Agricultural Science from the University of München.


Rojas was awarded a scholarship from the Konrad Adenauer and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and has served as a consultant to both ECLAC and FAO.


From 1994 until 1997, Ambassador Álvaro Rojas was president of the Agricultural Innovation Council of the Ministry of Agriculture.  Then, from 1997 until 2000, Ambassador Rojas served as the National Coordinator of the Chile-Germany Scientific Cooperation program.


Additionally, Álvaro Rojas headed the Association of Regional Universities in Chile from 2002 to 2004.
