Leader of internet child-pornography ring arrested in Santiago

The organization was detected in Germany through an Internet and e-mail investigation.

SANTIAGO.- After five months of investigation, officers from the Special Police Investigation Department (BIPE) have arrested a suspect identified as Cristián Aros Silva, who is charged with leading and participating in an international child-pornography ring operating out of Chile.


According to police, the network was detected in the German city of Wiesbaden through the use of Internet and electronic mail analysis, after which a complaint was filed at Interpol.


The suspect was captured just after 7:30 AM this morning and did not resist arrest.


Police have seized two computer hard drives with images and films of child pornography from the man’s residence, as well as material on DVDs, CDs and adult pornographic magazines containing photos of minors.


According to initial reports, Cristián Aros was previously been sentenced to three years in prison by the prior justice system for having sexually molested an 11 year-old girl.
