SANTIAGO.- The Minister of the Santiago Court of Appeals, Carlos Cerda, is currently listed in critical, though not life-threatening, condition and continues to remain under close medical observation.

The report came from Doctor Carlos Poblete of the Universidad Católica Clinical Hospital, where Cerda was transferred from Temuco after suffering a myocardial heart attack on Friday night.

The doctor stated that 65 year-old Judge Cerda remains hospitalized and continues in a condition that is still “unstable, risky and grave”.

“We are currently trying to keep him stable with the appropriate medications”, stated the physician.

Two weeks ago, the magistrate reopened an investigation into the Riggs case, ruling against lifting the seizure of funds belonging to Pinochet, which had been requested by his widow, Lucía Hiriart, to pay for taxes on 27 properties.
