SANTIAGO.- During a speech in honor of Social Leader’s Day, the Minister of the Executive Branch, Francisco Vidal, was informed of the death of Chamber of Deputies president Juan Bustos.

Vidal received the information from presidential advisor Rodrigo Peñailillo, who approached him and whispered the news in his ear.  The Presidential Spokesman then immediately announced to the audience the unfortunate death of the highly respected legislator and human rights defense lawyer.

Minister Vidal announced that the government had decided to declare three days of nation mourning to pay homage to Juan Bustos and then asked for applause from those present to honor the deceased President of the Lower House, which lasted for more than 30 seconds.

“We have lost a great colleague, a great deputy, and a great teacher, one of the best in Chile”, Vidal stated as he continued the ceremony he dedicated to Bustos, whom he remembered as a man that gave “his life for the cause of the people”.
