TOKYO.- Thanks to his leading role in the movie directed by Pablo Larrain, "Tony Manero", Chilean actor Alfredo Castro was presented with the award for best actor at the Latin American Film Festival in Tokyo.

Castro, who also co-wrote the film, plays a man whose obsession with the character played by John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever" brings him to commit a variety of extreme acts.

According to the organization, the US-Mexican co production "La misma luna" –a film about the relationship between a mother and her child which debuted in Chilean theatres last Thursday took home the award for best film.

The award for best director went to Spaniard Nacho Vigalondo for "Los cronocrímenes", a film that sparked much curiosity and prompted a lively discussion among festival attendees.

In the category for best documentary, the winner was "La Corona" a short film directed by Amanda Michelli (also nominated for an Oscar) about prison beauty pageants.

The festival named María Onetto as best actress for her role in "La mujer sin cabeza", a film by Argentine director Lucrecia Martel.
