SANTIAGO.– An automobile accident in Las Condes left two people with distinct injuries early this morning. The crash occurred on the corner of avenida Padre Hurtado and Camino El Alba in the Los Dominicos sector of Las Condes.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 AM this morning when Tomás Campos Muñoz was driving with his friend Matías Kalbhen Cáceres, both 21 years of age. He was presumably traveling above the speed limit along avenida Padre Hurtado in a grey Suzuki Swift when, at the 1,300 block and for reasons that are still under investigation, he lost control, crashing into another vehicle.

The vehicle that he crashed into was a parked Subaru belonging to the night watchman of one of the car sales establishments nearby.

The first impact against the Subaru made Campos' vehicle flip and then hit a light post, knocking it out of its foundation.

According to police captain Patricio Faunes, the impact against the light post prevented the vehicle from crashing into an apartment building.

The Transportation Accident Investigation Unit of Police and firefighters arrived at the scene and rescued the men from the twisted metal of the vehicle. The injured were taken to the Clínica Las Condes where they are reportedly in stable condition with undetermined prognoses.
