Claudia Serrano assumes new position as Minister of Labor

The socialist party member, who previously worked as the Undersecretary of Regional Development, was sworn in this morning for the position formerly held by Osvaldo Andrade.

SANTIAGO. -  Presiding over the ministers of the political committee, as well as resigned state secretary Osvaldo Andrade, President Michelle Bachelet swore in Claudia Serrano Madrid (PS) as the new Minister of Labor and Social Welfare.


During a brief ceremony that was held in the Salón Toesca room of La Moneda, and which was also attended by Serrano’s relatives, the President thanked Andrade for his service and “high level of dedication” as the head of the Ministry of Labor and also pointed out the “vast governmental experience” of his successor, who until today had been working as the Undersecretary of Regional Development.


The President also stressed the “great challenges and complex scenario” that the new minister will have to face, indicating that she will have to be responsible for a new stage of welfare reform, continue on with the improvement of unemployment insurance and the implementation of labor justice, among other tasks.
